It’s completely common to think that your chapped lips need to be scrubbed down. The truth is, scrubbing your already cracked, flaking, or even bleeding skin will only make your lips worse. At this point, the most important thing to give your skin is moisture. Lip scrubs aren’t all bad, but they should really only be used occasionally, or when you’re hoping to smooth out your lips before dry matte lipstick, or before an upcoming date. And Since you should really only be exfoliating your lips once a week max, you should go out and buy an expensive product. You can easily make an at-home lip exfoliator with ingredients commonly found in pantries. It takes just a few minutes to mash it all together and gently buff it over your lips. Here are a few DIY Lip Scrub Recipes:
Brown Sugar and Honey
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- Just honey enough to make a paste)
- 1 drop vanilla
Lip Balm Scrub
- ½ tube of lip balm, mashed up
- 2 teaspoon granulated white or brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon jojoba or olive oil
Mint Sugar Scrub
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 drop peppermint oil
Lemon Sugar Scrub
- 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of coconut oil
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar (approximate)
For each scrub, all you need to do is mix all the ingredients in a small bowl, a bit at a time, until you form a thick paste. Make sure you are still able to feel the sugar granules and add more sugar if needed. Once all the ingredients are mixed together, you can transfer your scrub to a small container and can keep for about one week in the fridge. This is why most recipes are small.
